Good evening from Kumbartcho. Kumbartcho now has 122 more trees!
Thanks to all who turned out for our tree planting day. Special thanks to all the kids who turned up. Their energy was boundless and an inspiration.
As nature can, it turned up the heat!
We were planting in a 30 degree blue sky day! Felt like 45 degrees and we were soaked with sweat.
Needless to say after 61 trees, & 1.5 hours we pulled up stumps, & headed for the shade.
Since pulling up stumps on Thursday 4/1/2024, I have put in 4 sessions, and 5 hours to complete the 2 lines of trees.
Ah! the benefit of people power to get the job done faster! I am so pleased that people liked the idea of helping with the planting. Doing the final bit on my own has certainly increased my appreciation of their effort.

Planting Distances
Trees are planted 1 metre apart. They are protected from the cattle with fences on each side. There is room to slash between fence, and trees, between trees, and between trees and chain of ponds. Once the trees are old enough to survive without protection, the fencing will be removed.
Watch the Review Video at the bottom of the page for more information about the trees and the cattle.
Why the 1 metre spacing?
To get a better growth response as trees “begin to talk to each other” both above, and below ground. If you are a little sceptical about that statement, a really good read is Finding the Mother Tree by Suzanne Simard
A big thank you to the planters!
We surely learned to appreciate the value of shade!
Tree Planting Invitation
In preparation for tree planting day Thursday 4/1/24 I was out harvesting for my signature dish…5 weed fritata. This, along with pumpkin soup, sourdough bread, & kombucha tea will be served for lunch.
Bread & kombucha from a local maker.
Morning tea biscuits also from a local baker.
As part of my regenerative policy I love to serve food that’s local, organic, biodynamic, and is “food for the soul!” Thursday 8.30 am we’ve got 150 trees to plant, & ideal weather conditions to give trees a good start.
All trees from a local supplier too!
The $s we spend locally stays in our community!
The weeds for fritata? Fat hen, cobblers peg, amaranth, purslane, sweet potato tips.
Just simply come feast with us!
And plant a tree or three!

A Question For You
A number of people have commented that I should start a donation page for people who would like to contribute to the growing of trees on Kumbartcho Farm. I think it is a good idea, but am not sure if there are people who would want to do it.
By the time I have got the trees, protection bags and food for the planters, the cost of each tree planted is just over $10.00
If you have any thoughts about it, I would definitely be interested in your opinion. Let me know in the message box below.
Regards to all for the New Year… Shane
